We like to meet and have informal discussions with colloquium speakers to learn about the
different paths that women take within academia and/or industry and their struggles
and successes to help students formulate their own paths. We will usually meet in the
9th Floor Atrium of Gould-Simplson around 9:00-10:00 am for bagels, coffee, and great conversation on days
when we have women speakers (listed below). This time may change, depending on the speaker's schedule
so be sure to check our calendar for any updates. All are welcome!
The geosciences colloquium itself is scheduled 4:00-5:00 pm in the Gould-Simpson Building, Room 228A.

Write Nights are a dedicated time for AWG members to get together to write and work on homework, projects, papers, presentations, etc.
as a group. You can think of them as a kind of geosciences study hall where there is a group of fellow geoscientists around to give any
additional feedback and support you may need on whatever you're working on. Additionally planned throughout the school year are Write Nights
tailored to helping each other with specific events, like Geodaze presentations, grad school/job applications, etc.
Our next Write Night will be scheduled soon.
Each month AWG hosts invites the women of the Geosciences Department to get together over happy hour. This tradition was started by Prof. Barbara Carrapa in the Spring of 2018. The intent of this event is for all of us to chat and get to know each other off campus and ultimately foster a commmunity of women in the department as well as share experiences, advice, etc!
We host a graduate student panel every fall semester to answer questions and share experiences in
applying to graduate school catered to undergrads. We cover topics like how to start applying, finding the right grad program for you,
writing personal statements, and more! This is a time for undergraduates to come and ask questions they have about what grad school
is like and the process of applying. We highly encourage everyone who is thinking of grad school to attend.
As a follow-up to the panel, we host a write night tailored for graduate school applications where undergrads can bring
any application materials they wished to receive feedback on from graduate students and faculty.
A list of compiled tips and steps for applying to grad school can be found here!
